Florida State is searching for its first midweek win of the season after dropping one-run games at Jacksonville and Mercer. The Noles are coming off a 2-1 overall series win against California with another tight loss in extra innings on Sunday.

The Seminoles rise in the three of the major polls after the Cal series, peaking at No. 8 in D1Baseball (from 10) and No. 10 in Baseball America (from 12). The first RPI rankings were also announced Monday, with FSU at No. 10.

FGCU enters the series as one of the hottest teams in the country, winners of 10 straight. FSU’s weekend opponent, Wake Forest for the ACC opener, is 11-0 on the year.

Sophomore Carson Montgomery has not recorded a decision in either start this season. In both midweek appearances, he pitched four innings and has a combined six hits allowed, four walks, and four strikeouts.

Two Noles, James Tibbs and Alex Toral, have reached base in every game this season. The duo combined to lead FSU past Cal Friday night, with Toral hitting a game-tying two-run home run in the eighth inning and Tibbs’ singling for the walk-off win in the ninth.

Although his hitting streak ended at 10 games on Sunday, freshman Jaime Ferrer still leads the team with four multi-hit games this season. Logan Lacey also has four multi-hit games after earning five hits combined against California.

The last meeting between FSU and FGCU was in May 2021 in a two-game series where the Noles won the second game 2-1. All but one matchup between the two programs have been played in Tallahassee.
