Seminoles Finish as 2023 National Runners-Up in Women’s College World Series

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The third-seeded Florida State softball team (58-11) fell 3-1 to top-seeded Oklahoma (61-1) in the second game of the Women's College World Series Championship Series at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium on Thursday night.
The Seminoles end the season as national runners-up for the second time since 2021 and in program history.
Kathryn Sandercock took her sixth career start in the circle at the WCWS, pitching a complete game.
She began with a shutdown first inning, forced a double play in the second, and escaped a bases loaded, no outs situation in the third. Sandercock also added three strikeouts.
The senior ace finishes her career as the all-time leader in pitching appearances (183) and saves (18) along with 107 wins and 718.0 innings pitched.
In addition to Sandercock, Michaela Edenfield and Kaley Mudge were named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team.
Mack Leonard stepped to the plate in a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth with one out. Leonard crushed a solo homerun over the right field fence to take the 1-0 lead.
Leonard homer was her sixth of the season and 30th of her collegiate career.
Oklahoma responded with two solo home runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead, 2-1. The Sooners added another run in the sixth, extending the lead 3-1.
The Seminoles finished as runner-ups in their third WCWS Championship Series appearance in the past five seasons.
The team also doubled as ACC Regular Season and Tournament Champions for the first time since 2018. It was the tenth season advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals, 12th appearing in the Women's College World Series.
