Soccer Earns First Conference Win at Home Against Boston College

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The number one ranked Seminole Soccer team (8-0) started ACC play at home with a 4-1 win over Boston College (6-2-1).

By the eighth game of the season, all of the starting defenders have scored at least a goal apiece accounting for six of the Seminole’s 25 goals. Emily Madril tacked on her second of the season with the opening goal in the 48th minute off of a corner from LeiLanni Nesbeth. Lauren Flynn was the most recent addition to the list with a header off another corner from Nesbeth in the 55th minute.

Yujie Zhao scored her second goal of the season, bringing her career total to 17 goals. She currently sits at 21st on the FSU all-time points list with 53. She has a total of 7 points so far this season.

After a scoreless first half, the Seminoles saw success on consecutive corner kicks. Nesbeth placed the first one near post inducing a scramble when Madril sent the ball into the back of the net. The second assist from Nesbeth was placed back post to Flynn who headed it into the back of the net with no contest.

The Seminoles found the back of the net a third time with a perfectly placed through ball from Jenna Nighswonger in the midfield to Yujie Zhao in the box. Zhao finished with one touch, beating Boston College’s keeper on the near post in the 72nd minute.

Ran Iwai scored the Seminole’s fourth and final goal after a master-class possession through the midfield by Florida State. The play started with Kirsten Pavlisko in the back after winning the ball back from the Eagles. Zhao received the ball from Pavlisko and found Nighswonger on the far side of the field. Iwai ran onto the through ball from Nighswonger and finished one touch into the upper right 90.


Boston College was fouled late in the 83rd minute resulting in a PK goal by Linda Boama. After 90 minutes, Florida State leaves the Seminole Soccer Complex with a dominating 4-1 win over Boston College.

Florida State is at home next week for one game against Pittsburgh on Thursday, September 23 at 8 pm.
