TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Three Florida State Men’s Basketball Players – Justin Lindner, Will Miles and Harrison Prieto – have been named to the Academic Honors Court by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The Academic Honors Court recognizes the men’s basketball student-athletes who excelled in the classroom during the 2019-20 academic year. It marked the second consecutive year Lindner, Miles and Prieto have been named and the fourth consecutive season at least one Seminole has been named to the NABC Academic Honors Court.

Each of the NCAA and NAIA Division I, II and III basketball players named to the national academic list met the requirements of being a junior or senior academically and earning a 3.2 grade point average or better during the 2019-20 academic year.

Florida State was one of six programs from the ACC and one of only three schools from the nation’s top basketball conference with as many as three NABC Academic Honors Court honorees. Florida State was joined by only Louisville and Pittsburgh with as many as three players named to the prestigious academic list. A pair of players from Miami, North Carolina and Virginia were also named to the honors court.

“We enjoyed a strong year academically,” said Head Coach Leonard Hamilton. “We had eight players named to the ACC Honor Roll (Trent Forrest, Nathanael Jack, Balsa Koprivica, Travis Light, Will Miles, Harrison Prieto, Devin Vassell and Patrick Williams), three players named to the NABC Honors Court (Justin Lindner, Miles, Prieto) and two named to the All-ACC Men’s Basketball Team (Forrest and Vassell). That’s nine different players who earned at least one academic honor, and that’s a great achievement for our team.”

Lindner (Applied Mathematics), Miles (Finance) and Prieto (Meteorology) were also named to the NABC Honors Court during the 2018-19 season when a school-record five Seminoles were named to the listed presented by the coaches’ association. All three players will begin their graduate school academic experiences in the fall and all three will be members of the Seminoles Men’s Basketball team for the final year of their careers in 2020-21.

“Academics have always been first priority for me from a young age,” said Lindner. “Athletics won’t always be there so a degree secured my future. Moving forward I’m excited to start new endeavors in graduate school taking a deeper look into sports management as this will surely help me become a better coach in the future.”

The members of the 2019-20 Seminole Men’s Basketball Team have been named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll a total of 24 times and earned Florida State Academic Dean’s List honors a total of 14 times.

“The NABC Honor Court is an award for student-athletes who not just earn the honor roll designation of a 3.2 GPA – but take the difficult step to move from being a good student to being a great one,” said Charlie Hogan, Associate Director of Florida State’s Academic Support Unit for Student-Athletes. “Justin, Will, and Harrison each earned this designation twice while enrolled in extremely rigorous degree programs at Florida State. It is a testament to their hard work and the culture of academic success that Coach Hamilton and his staff have built in the program.”
