Jones Leads Seminoles with 21 Points against Miami

TALLAHASSEE – Lajae Jones scored 21 points, and Chauncey Wiggins added 14 in Florida State's 83-73 loss against the Miami Hurricanes in the Donald L. Tucker Center. Jones scored 18 second half points as the Seminole worked back from a deficit during much of the second half before losing to the Hurricanes for the first time in the last seven meetings between the two teams. Florida State has won 15 of the last 17 games between the two teams.
Florida State fell to 14-14 and 7-8 in the ACC. Miami improved to 22-6 and 11-4 in ACC play.
Jones has led the Seminoles in scoring four times this season and has finished with 20 or more points in five games during his first season as a Seminole. Wiggins finished in double-figure scoring for the 19th time this season. Wiggins added a team-high five rebounds to his scoring.
Kobe MaGee converted the first four-point play of the season to tie the game at 57 apiece with 7:54 remaining in the second half.
Miami would respond by outscoring the Seminoles 16-5 over the next four minutes.
Miami held a 23-16 lead with 7:47 to play in the first half. Florida State would score five straight points to cut the lead to two, 23-21.
Later, Miami's lead was four until Wiggins made a 3-point shot to cut the lead to just one, 28-27, with 4:32 to go in the first half.
Wiggins led the Seminoles with nine first-half points. He finished the game with two made 3-point shots and was a perfect 2-2 at the free throw line.
Florida State trailed 38-32 at halftime.
Miami's lead ballooned to 10, 54-44, with 13:13 remaining in the game.
Jones made a 2-point shot that sparked a 13-3 Florida State run to tie the game. His 18 points are the most points he has scored in a half in any game this season.
Miami outscored Florida State 26-16 to close out the game.
Miami's Malik Reneau led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds. His 12 rebounds marked a new season high.
Florida State travels to play Georgia Tech at McCamish Pavilion on Saturday, February 28, at 12:00 p.m.
