TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Boston College (13-3, 3-2 ACC) evened the series with No. 21 Florida State (12-7, 3-2) Saturday, beating the Seminoles 4-2 in front of 4,244 fans at Dick Howser Stadium. The game began in 50 degree temperatures that only got colder as it rained throughout the evening.
The Eagles took a 3-0 lead in the third inning against starting pitcher Jamie Arnold (1-1). Arnold tied a career high with five strikeouts in the outing.
Freshman Ben Barrett got FSU on the board with an RBI single in the fourth inning against Chris Flynn (5-0). Flynn entered Saturday leading the ACC with a 0.79 ERA and pitched 7.0 innings, allowing four hits and striking out nine. The Noles added an unearned run against Flynn in the fifth inning.
Doug Kirkland relieved Arnold and set career highs with 4.0 innings pitched and five strikeouts, allowing just one run in the fifth inning. David Barrett and Andrew Armstrong combined for a scoreless eighth and ninth innings.
Andrew Roman earned his third save of the season for Boston College with two scoreless innings, stranding runners on second and third in the eighth.
Jaime Ferrer had a pair of hits for FSU and extended his hitting streak to a career-high 10 games.
