Malia Berkely Named United Soccer Coaches Scholar Player of the Year

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – United Soccer Coaches announced the association’s 2020-21 Men’s and Women’s Scholar All-America and All-Region Teams on Thursday afternoon. Malia Berkely was named the organization’s Scholar Player of the Year, while also being named a First Team Scholar All-American and All-Region for the south region. Clara Robins was named to the Scholar All-Region Second Team.

Berkely graduated with her MBA in December with a 3.69 GPA. She started all 11 games in the fall for the Seminoles, helping them to their seventh ACC Tournament title. She anchored the defensive backline from her center-back position that held opponents to six goals in 11 games. The Seminoles recorded seven shutouts in the fall, including shutouts in the first four games of the season. Berkely was named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-ACC First Team in the fall. She became the first player in ACC history to win back-to-back Player of the Year honors. Berkely was also named a MAC Hermann Trophy finalist yesterday.

Robbins has a 4.0 GPA in Biology. She started all 16 games for the Seminoles, leading them in points, goals and assists. Robbins had a career season on the pitch scoring six goals after not scoring a single goal since she arrived on campus in 2016. She was named to the All-ACC Second Team in the fall and was named the ACC Tournament MVP. After helping lead the Seminoles to their fifth national title game, Robbins was named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team on Monday.
