WINSON-SALEM, N.C. – A goal late in each half propelled the No. 24 Florida State soccer team to a 2-0 win at No. 4 Wake Forest on Thursday night at Spry Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
The Seminoles (6-1-3, 2-0-2 ACC) extended their unbeaten streak to six in a row, with three top-25 road wins in that stretch. The Demon Deacons (10-2-1, 3-2-1 ACC) were handed just their second home loss in 40 games since 2023, as the defeat also snapped a 20-0-3 unbeaten streak since late October 2024. That also was the last time WF was shut out on their home pitch.
FSU took a 1-0 lead with just two seconds left in the first half, as senior midfielder Ashley Henderson scored on a header as the clock neared zero. Florida State doubled the lead with less than eight minutes remaining in the match thanks to junior forward Wrianna Hudson who found the back of the net to secure the road victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene made four saves, her third-most in a game this season, and earned her fourth shutout of the campaign. Ockene improved to 5-1-3 in 2026.
Florida State out-shot Wake Forest 16-12 with a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal. Corners were 5-4 for the home side, and 10 fouls were called on WF and seven on FSU. Wake's keeper made five saves and three Seminole shots were credited with team saves.
Hudson and junior forward Shaneil Buckley both had a game-high-tying five shots, as all five of Hudson's shots were on target with three for Buckley.
Henderson's goal is her first of the season and as a Seminole, and the 24th score of her four-year career. It's her 12th career game-winning goal. Hudson now leads the team with five goals in 2026 and she has 29 in her career. Junior midfielder Lara Dantas, who made her season debut on Thursday night, assisted on Henderson's goal. It's the sixth assist of her career.
FSU improves to 16-13-6 all-time against Wake Forest, including 13-11-3 in ACC contests and 4-9-2 in Winston-Salem. The Seminoles have won seven of the last eight and are unbeaten in 11 of the last 13 contests since the 2011 postseason.
Ockene made the game's first save in the third minute, and a shot was blocked less than 20 seconds later. Buckley had FSU's first shot three minutes after that, which was saved, and Buckley had another chance in the 19th minute that was blocked away before it reached the goal line.
Another Ockene save came 90 seconds later before Hudson put her first shot on target in the 22nd minute.
Two more saves by Wake Forest prevented FSU from taking its first lead, and the visiting defense forced a shot wide in the 37th minute.
Freshman forward Ryder Ajeto almost made it 1-0 in the final minute of the first half, but her shot was saved. A corner kick then set up the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning, goal.
Dantas took the corner with 10 seconds on the clock. Headed away by the Wake defense, the ball bounced once to Dantas just outside the penalty area. A quick lob back into the box found Henderson unmarked at the penalty spot, and she headed it in towards the right post past a diving Wake Forest keeper.
With two seconds on the clock in the first half, the Seminoles had a 1-0 lead.
Shots were 9-6 to Florida State, and 7-2 in shots on goal through 45 minutes. Corners were 3-1 for the Seminoles.
FSU had the first four shots of the second half, with one shot by Buckley saved in the 59th minute.
Two Demon Deacon shots were blocked and another forced off target before Ockene made another nice save in the 71st minute.
Hudson almost made it 2-0 in the 79th minute, but a save was made, and Ockene notched a stop of her own less than a minute later to preserve the shutout.
The lead was extended to 2-0 thanks to Hudson at 82:28. Ockene sent a goal kick to midfield where Hudson got the ball and dribbled towards the goal. At the edge of the 18 and with two defenders on her heels, Hudson delivered a game-sealing strike past the WF keeper off her line.
Hudson had a chance at 3-0 exactly one minute later, but it was saved. That shot proved to be the final shot of the game for either side.
Florida State had a 7-6 edge in shots, 3-2 in shots on goal, in the second half. The home side had the 4-1 advantage in corners.
