Men’s Basketball Falls to Pitt, 56-51

TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (seminoles.com) – Caleb Mills scored a team-high 19 points, and Matthew Cleveland scored 12 points as the Seminoles fell to Pittsburgh at the Donald L. Tucker Center.
Ithiel Horton scored 25 points, shooting 7 for 13 from 3-point range, and Pittsburgh the shorthanded Seminoles. Forward Malik Osborne is out for the season after ankle surgery, center Naheem McLeod is out after breaking bones in his right hand, which required surgery as well, and guard Anthony Polite also required surgery after suffering a fractured wrist.
Pitt led 21-20 at halftime as both teams struggled to score. The Panthers were 7-for-28 (25%) shooting while Florida State made just 5 of 28 attempts (17.9%) before intermission.
Florida State struggled to shoot as they shot .290 percent from the field, .290 percent from the three-point line, and .670 percent from the free throw line. Mills had four of the Seminoles’ seven three-point shots and Cleveland had one.
Mills was four for eight from beyond the arc (.500 percent) and leads the Seminoles in three-point shooting with 29 3-point shots made this season.
Freshman John Butler led the team with two steals and pulled down six rebounds. Florida State had a team total of five steals this evening as they continue to lead the ACC in steals with 213 this season and a 9.3 steals per game average.
The Seminoles are on a school-record steals pace this season. The all-time Florida State record for steals in a game during a single season is 9.2 (322 steals / 9.2 spg) during the 1992-93 season.
Cam’Ron Fletcher scored nine points, including one from 3-poisnt range, and pulled down a team-high tying seven rebounds.
Pitt’s Horton scored his 25 points in shooting seven of 13 from the three-point line. Mouhamadou Gueye helped out defensively with eight blocked shots.
The Seminoles’ will travel to North Carolina this Saturday, February 12 in a game that will tip-off at 2pm ET.
