TALLAHASSEE – Parker Messick is the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing 7.0 scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts Friday against No. 7 TCU. The sophomore lefthander allowed just two hits and did not walk a batter.
It is Messick’s fourth weekly honor this year and the sixth of his career. Only one other pitcher in the conference has multiple Pitcher of the Week wins this season.
Messick’s scoreless innings streak at FSU’s Dick Howser Stadium now stands at 28.2 innings over his past four starts (versus Duke, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 9 Louisville and No. 7 TCU).
In Friday night’s 10-0 win over TCU, Messick tied a career high with 14 strikeouts, his third game this season reaching that mark (no other ACC team has a pitcher with a 14-strikeout game), while allowing just two hits without a walk in seven innings. He took a perfect game into the fifth inning and a no-hitter into the sixth.
Messick combined with reliever Ross Dunn for 19 strikeouts in Friday night’s win, the most in school history without a walk. Over his current scoreless streak at Howser, Messick has allowed just 13 hits and two walks with 53 strikeouts. The Plant City, Florida, sophomore leads the country with 116 strikeouts on the season. He owns 12 career double-digit strikeout games, seven of which have come this spring.
Messick is the reigning ACC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year. For the season, Messick is 6-2 with a 2.60 ERA on top of his 116 strikeouts. He has walked just 12 batters.
