Florida State will start a trio of pitchers who have all been recognized as ACC Pitcher of the Week within the last four weeks. Junior left-hander Wes Mendes (6-2, 1.97 ERA) will get the ball in Thursday's opener against Georgia Tech junior right-handed starter Tate McKee (5-0, 3.35 ERA). FSU junior lefty Trey Beard (3-0, 3.58 ERA) will toe the rubber against junior right-hander Porter Buursema (0-1, 3.77 ERA) on Friday. The Seminoles will start junior right-hander Bryson Moore (5-1, 4.19 ERA) on Saturday vs. Yellow Jacket sophomore righty Jackson Blakely (4-1, 1.82 ERA).

FSU is 24-8 on the season, 16-3 at home, 7-2 on the road, 1-3 at a neutral site and 7-4 against ranked opponents. The team is 9-3 in the ACC and in second place. The Seminoles are coming off a 4-3 loss to Florida following series win at then-No. 10 Virginia. Florida State is off to its best ACC start since a 9-2 mark in 2016, while the 2015 campaign was the last time the team opened with four three-game ACC series wins in a row, with a five-series streak. The Seminoles have won all four ACC series to begin the season, with three of them against top-12 opponents and two coming on the road, both against ranked foes.

As a team, Florida State is hitting .283 with 298 hits, 39 home runs, 65 doubles, five triples, 173 walks, 250 runs scored and 217 RBI. The pitching staff has a 3.90 ERA with 117 earned runs allowed on 213 hits with 346 strikeouts and 126 walks in 270.0 innings.

Sophomore catcher Hunter Carns is hitting .359 with two home runs in the last three games and is one of three players with 28 hits. On the mound, junior lefty Wes Mendes is 6-2 with a 1.97 ERA, having struck out 65 and given up 10 earned runs on 30 hits in 45.2 innings. Junior right-hander John Abraham has made 12 appearances, all but one out of the bullpen, and has 43 strikeouts and a 0.61 ERA in 29.1 innings.

NATIONALLY RANKED SEMINOLES
Florida State moved up two spots to No. 5 in D1Baseball top-25. FSU also is No. 5 according to Baseball America and Perfect Game and No. 6 by the NCBWA, The Athletic and the Coaches Poll.

SERIES HISTORY VS. GEORGIA TECH
Florida State is 81-51 all-time against Georgia Tech, including 41-17 in Tallahassee, 31-24 in Atlanta and 9-10 at a neutral site. FSU is 56-43 vs. GT since joining the ACC in 1992. The series began with a 16-9 victory in the 1959 NCAA Tournament, followed by a three-game sweep at home in 1962. The last matchup came in 2024, where the Seminoles took two-of-three from May 16-17 in Tallahassee, followed by a 12-9 ACC Tournament win four days later. Prior to 2024, three consecutive meetings took place in Atlanta, with series losses in 2018 and 2022 around a series win in 2021.

SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS
Georgia Tech is 27-5 on the season, 18-2 at home, 8-3 on the road and 1-0 at a neutral site. GT has won nine in a row, with an 11-4 win over Kennesaw State on Tuesday night following a sweep at Cal, a 13-3, eight-inning win over No. 18 Auburn and a home series sweep of No. 14 NC State. Against top-25 teams, the Yellow Jackets are 6-2, with a series win at No. 12 Clemson and a 9-2 loss at No. 5 Auburn.

GT is in the top-four nationally in each major poll, checking in at No. 3 by D1Baseball, the NCBWA, The Athletic and the Coaches Poll. Georgia Tech is No. 2 in the Perfect Game top-25 and No. 4 by Baseball America.

The Yellow Jackets are led by 2022 Florida State Athletics Hall of Famer James Ramsey, in his first season as head coach. A two-time All-American and the 2012 ABCA National Player of the Year, Ramsey was an outfielder for the Seminoles from 2009-12 and helped lead FSU to two College World Series appearances.

LAST TIME OUT: RALLY FALLS SHORT
FSU's comeback came up one run short in a 4-3 loss to Florida on Tuesday night at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles rallied with two runs in the eighth inning on a two-run home run by Carns to cut a three-run deficit to one run, but the Gators prevented the tying or go-ahead run from scoring in both the eighth and ninth innings. Carns was one of three players with two hits and he notched two RBI. Junior left-hander Cooper Whited (1-2) suffered his second loss of the year. In 4.1 innings, he allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks while throwing a season-high 69 pitches. Three of Whited's four full innings were three-up, three-down frames.
