John Sansone (1-3) and Quincy Nieporte (1-2) were responsible for the two Florida State hits on the evening. They were two of five Seminole hitters to reach base, along with Taylor Walls and Ben DeLuzio, who reached via walks. Teammate Jackson Lueck also reached on a fielder’s choice in the ninth.
Dalton Guthrie got the Gators’ offense going in the top of the first when he reached on an error at shortstop. Two batters later, Peter Alonso delivered a one-out double off the left field wall, plating Guthrie, as Florida grabbed the 1-0 lead.
Guthrie proved to be the nemesis for Florida State again in the third when he led off the frame with a single up the middle. Two batters later, with Alonso at the plate, Guthrie used a pair of wild pitches to move to third before a grounder to short provided the Gators with a 2-0 advantage.
Florida added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning after a leadoff walk by Alonso, coupled with a series of walks by Buddy Reed and Jeremy Vasquez loaded the bases. Freshman second baseman Deacon Liput delivered with a two-out single to right field, scoring Alonso and Reed for the 4-0 Gator lead.
The final Florida run came in the top of the ninth when a pair of back-to-back doubles to left by Alonso and JJ Schwarz resulted in Alonso crossing the plate with the fifth run.
