Buster Posey Elected to College Baseball Hall of Fame

TALLAHASSEE – Florida State baseball alumnus Buster Posey has been elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame, the College Baseball Foundation announced on Thursday.
 
Posey is the ninth Seminole to be elected to the College Baseball Hall of Fame and third in the last two years. The 21-member class of 2026 will be inducted on February 11, 2027, at the College Baseball Hall of Fame in Overland Park, Kansas.
 
A catcher and shortstop at FSU from 2006-08, Posey was inducted to the Florida State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018. His uniform No. 8 was retired in 2023.
 
The 2008 consensus national player of the year, Posey won the Dick Howser Trophy, Golden Spikes Award, Brooks Wallace Award and Johnny Bench Award after his junior season. He also was bestowed with National Player of the Year honors by Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rivals. He also earned the Rawlings Gold Glove Award.
 
Posey earned All-America honors all three seasons at Florida State, beginning with First Team Freshman All-America distinction in 2006. He was bestowed with four All-America accolades as a sophomore in 2007 and was on six First Team All-America lists as a consensus awardee in 2008.
 
From Leesburg, Georgia, Posey was a shortstop in 2006 and a catcher in 2007 and 2008. He also made 10 appearances on the mound, nine in 2008. He was the 2008 ACC Player of the Year and on the All-ACC First Team in 2007 and 2008. He led FSU to the 2008 College World Series and an ACC regular-season title in 2007.
 
During his historic 2008 season, Posey led the country in batting average (.463), hits (119), RBI (93), total bases (226), on-base percentage (.566) and slugging percentage (.879). He won the ACC triple crown, leading the conference in batting average, home runs (26) and RBI, to become the fourth player to achieve the feat in league history. In the single-season record books, Posey is No. 1 in batting average and No. 2 in slugging percentage and on-base percentage, while he remains in the top-10 in hits, home runs and total bases.
 
In his career, Posey is third in team history in batting average (.398), eighth in hits (298) and on-base percentage (.487) and 10th in RBI (206). A 67-game hit streak during the 2008 season is the longest in program history.
 
Posey was the fifth overall selection in the 2008 MLB Draft by the San Francisco Giants. He was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 2010 and NL Most Valuable Player in 2012. A seven-time All-Star, Posey won three World Series titles with San Francisco. He currently is the President of Baseball Operations for the Giants.
 
Posey is joined in the College Baseball Hall of Fame by fellow Seminole greats Dick Howser (FSU 1955-58; HC 1979 / HOF Class of 2008), J.D. Drew (1995-97 / 2016), Mike Martin (1965-66; HC 1980-2019 / 2019), Terry Kennedy (1975-77 / 2021), Danny Litwhiler (HC 1955-63 / 2021), Mike Fuentes (1978-81 / 2023), Gene Ammann (1968-70 / 2025) and Mike Loynd (1983-86 / 2025).
