For Holton, his performance Friday night earned him a fifth Pitcher of the Week honor this season. He previously won the award after double-digit strikeout performances in consecutive weeks against Samford and Oakland; after allowing zero hits in seven innings of work against No. 8 North Carolina; and for last week’s complete game shutout against one of the top offenses in the country, No. 20 Wake Forest.
In five games against ranked opponents, Holton has allowed just six earned runs in 36.1 innings, with 38 strikeouts and a 1.49 earned run average.
Holton’s ERA has dropped from 3.03 to 2.55 over the past two weeks, and he has won each of his past three starts. He finished second in the ACC with 109 strikeouts.
Entering this week’s ACC Tournament, Holton ranks ninth nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (5.40), 13th in strikeouts (109), and 12th in WHIP (0.87).
