Hamilton Gives Darin The Green Light To Shoot At ACC Tip-Off

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – "If he can see the orange on the goal, if he can see the orange on the rim, as far as I'm concerned, he can shoot it. I'm not going to hold him back," said Florida State Head Coach Leonard Hamilton of senior guard Darin Green Jr. at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown as each of the 15 ACC Men's Basketball teams answered rapid fire questions from members of the local and national media at the annual ACC Tip-Off event.

The Seminoles were represented by Hamilton, Green Jr., and sophomore forward Baba Miller at the annual gathering of players, coaches, and members of the media – an event that serves as the ceremonial beginning of each college basketball season for the nation's top conference.

For Green, who was one of three players in the ACC who made 90 or more 3-point field goals last season, it was an opportunity to return to the Queen City – his hometown. He lived in Charlotte until the middle of seventh grade before moving to Florida, where he finished his all-star high school career.

"I had a chance to see a couple of friends and members of my family last night," said the shooting guard who enters the season with 299 made career made 3-point shots. "It's good to be home. It was a quick trip, less than a full day, but it was nice to see some friendly faces who I hadn't seen in quite a while."

Green was amused by Hamilton's statement on him having the freedom to shoot when he sees the orange of the rim.

"I've been working on my shot; shooting off the dribble and working with my teammates to get all of us open for better shots," said Green. "We are a team who I think can shoot the ball well collectively. We have worked hard during the off season on getting our teammates open for better looks."

It's an annual ritual for the league's coaches and many of its top players to answer questions that range from 'which is the toughest place for your team to play in the ACC' to 'what do you do when you are away from the court' to the always popular "who is the toughest player in the league to defend.'

Each player and coach in attendance took their turns answering questions on radio row, the main stage, with the various television partners that cover the league, the exceedingly highly-rated Nothing But Net television show and finishing with the wildly popular ACC PM program hosted by Mark Packer and Florida State alumna Taylor Tannebaum.

During his appearance on Nothing But Net with Kelsey Riggs, former Louisville standout Luke Hancock and North Carolina great Joel Berry, Hamilton reminded listeners how powerful the ACC is as the premier college basketball league.

"At the end of the year in the NCAA Tournament, the ACC is always standing there with their heads up," said Hamilton. "You always have the ACC being represented at the end of the year."

Miller, who is developing into one of Florida State's leaders, enjoyed his first time on such a large stage.

"It was a lot of fun," said Miller, who begins his second season as a member of Hamilton's program. "It was organized really well, as we were busy from the minute we started until the minute we finished. It was cool to see the players from the other teams, who we are only used to seeing when we play them. It allows us to renew some old acquaintances and make some new friends."

Florida State plays host to Flagler College on Sunday (October 29) at 4:00 p.m. at the Donald Tucker Center in Tallahassee in its first of two consecutive Sunday  afternoon  (October 29 and November 5) exhibition games.

Florida State's game against Flagler is free of charge.

The Seminoles play host to Kennesaw State on Friday, November 10, at 6:00 p.m. in its regular season opener. The Seminoles and the Owls play the night before the nationally ranked Seminole football team plays host to Miami in Doak Campbell Stadium.
