McCray V Ties His Season High in Florida State's Victory at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – CLEMSON, S.C. – Robert McCray V led all scorers with 29 points in Florida State's 70-65 win over the No. 24 Clemson Tigers at the Littlejohn Coliseum. The win was Florida State's third consecutive win, its seventh win in its last nine games, and its fourth ACC road win of the season. The win was also the first over a ranked teams for Seminole head coach Luke Loucks and his staff. The victory was the first by the Seminoles since an 77-71 overtime win over No. 22/23 Colorado on November 21, 2023 in the championship game of the Sunshine Slam.

Florida State improved to 14-13 and 7-7 in the ACC. Clemson fell to 20-8 and 10-5 in ACC play. The Tigers entered the game ranked No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches poll.

McCray V's 29 points tie his season high, which he set on November 7, 2025, against the Florida Gators. He has finished with double-digit scoring in 14 straight games and has scored 20 or more points in seven games this season. McCray's 29 points mark the second consecutive game he has scored 20 or more points. He has scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games two times in his first season as a Seminole.

After trailing at halftime, Florida State rode a second-half surge to grab its third consecutive come-from-behind victory. Florida State has shot at least 50% from the field and at least 40% from the 3-point line in the second half of each of the last three games.

The Seminoles' effort was on display on offense and defense. Florida State outscored the Tigers 11-0 in second-chance points. The Seminoles turned 8 Clemson turnovers into 14 points, outscoring the Tigers 14-9 in that category.

Florida State controlled most of the first half and held a six-point, 17-11, lead with 8:36 remaining in the first half. The Tigers would then go on a 10-0 run to take a 21-17 lead.

Clemson would extend its lead to 34-28 with just under 1:30 to play in the half. A McCray V layup followed by a made 3-point shot by Lajae Jones cut the Tigers' lead to one, 34-33.

Jones finished the game with 13 points, two rebounds, and a team-high three blocks. He has recorded three blocked shots in three games this season and twice in ACC play. Jones has scored in double-figures in six straight games.

Florida State trailed 36-33 at halftime.

McCray V scored four of the Seminoles' first six points of the second half. He scored 22 of his 29 points after the intermission.

Florida State trailed by one, 41-42, with 15:57 to play. An AJ Swinton slam in transition sparked a 7-0 run to give the Seminoles a 48-42 lead.

Senior Chauncey Wiggins extended the Seminoles' lead to eight, 52-44, with 11:19 remaining. The eight-point lead was Florida State's largest lead of the game.

In his first game against his former team, Wiggins scored seven points and grabbed two rebounds. Wiggins shot 50% (3-6) from the floor and 50% (1-2) from behind the 3-point line.

A closely contested final 10 minutes saw the Tigers hold a two-point lead, 65-63, with 2:44 to play.

The Seminoles held the Tigers scoreless in those remaining two minutes and closed the game on a 7-0 run. McCray V scored all seven points over that span.

Florida State returns to the Tucker Center to take on the Miami Hurricanes on Tuesday, February 24, at 9:00 p.m.
