Noles Capture National Titles

Max Wilson and Gloria Muzito set national records.
Tallahassee, Fla.  – Members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams continued to compete in national meets all around the world, setting national records and turning in podium finishes.
Max Wilson and Gloria Muzito established new national records, while Julia Mansson, Edith Jernstedt, and Yordan Yanchev grabbed gold at national meets.
Additionally, Molly Carlson won three silvers on the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series tour, and Alexia Swier captured gold at the USA Weightlifting Championships.Â

Mansson, Jernstedt Win Swedish National Titles
Julia Mansson and Edith Jernstedt each collected a gold medal at the Swedish National Swimming Championships.
Mansson was the winner in the 200 breast (2:29.77) and Jernstedt topped the podium in the 100m fly (1:01.63).
Jernstedt placed third in both the 200m fly (2:17.94) and 50m fly (27.52). She also grabbed silver in the 200m IM (2:20.27).

Yanchev Grabs Three Golds
Yordan Yanchev won three gold medals at the Bulgarian Swimming Championships from June 29-July 1.
Yanchev won the 200 free (1:50.31) behind a season-best swim. He also placed first in the 400m free (3:55.65) by five seconds and 800m free (8:17.58). He also posted his best 100m free at 49.96.

Julio HorregoÂ
Central America and Caribbean Games
Julio Horrego and Carlos Vasquez represented Honduras, while Max Wilson competed for the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Horrego took home three bronze medals in the breaststroke events. Horrego grabbed the last spot in the 50m breast final after taking eighth in prelims (28.85). Working from lane eight, he clocked 27.86 for third.Â
In the 100m, Horrego touched second at 1:01.64. At night, he placed third at 1:02.14. In the 200m, Horrego swam his career-best, touching at 2:15.70, setting the national record.
Both swims were FINA B cuts.
Wilson's meet was highlighted by three personal best times, placing fourth in the 100m back (56.64) after posting a 56.33 in prelims. He took seventh in the 200m IM (2:06.47) after clocking 2:05.97 in prelims and placed fifth in the 50m back (26.09).
Wilson lowered his national record in the 50m back, which previously stood at 26.44.
He was also 10th in the 200m back (2:08.11).
Vasquez finished 10th in both the 100m fly (55.98) and 200m fly (2:05.24). He also placed 11th in the 400m free (4:08.05) behind a career-best time. He added another personal best, placing 13th in the 50m fly (25.36) after clocking 25.17 in prelims.
Vasquez and Horrego helped their team place sixth in the 4x100 free relay and fourth in the 4x200 free relay. Horrego also helped Honduras finish fourth in the mixed 4x100 free relay.
Horrego and Wilson will each represent their countries at the World Aquatics Championships later this month.

Muzito Shines in First Nationals in Uganda
In her first national meet in Uganda, Gloria Muzito won three races in national record timing.
Muzito swam her personal best in two races, taking gold in the 50m free (25.55) and 100m free (56.01). She also won the 200m free (2:14.23).

Varjasi Wins Bronze
Prior to his fifth season at Florida State, Peter Varjasi took home the bronze medal in the 100m free at the German Swimming National Championships earlier in July.
Varjasi clocked 49.43 for third and he also added a fourth-place finish in the 50m free (22.65).
Varjasi will represent Germany at the World Aquatics Championships later this month.

Carlson Continues to Shine in Cliff Diving
After winning the World Cup High Diving title in May, Molly Carlson added three more podium finishes on the 2023 Red Bull Cliff Diving Circuit in three outings, all silver. Since joining the tour in 2021, Carlson has produced 13 podium finishes in 16 tries.
In Boston, Carlson secured silver at the Institute of Contemporary Art with a score of 346.20 on June 3. She followed that performance with another runner-up spot in Paris at 340.30 on June 18. Â At Polignano, Italy, Carlson once again won silver, scoring 327.70 on July 2.
Carlson will compete at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (July 25-27) before resuming the tour with a stop at Takachiho on Aug. 2.

Swier Takes National Title
Alexia Swier (Gonzalez) won her first-career USA Weightlifting national title in Colorado Springs, taking the women's 71KG event.
Following her diving career at Florida State (2014-18), Swier pursued a career in weightlifting. She competed in her first national championship event in 2019. In 2023, she won the state title in Florida at 76 Kilo and was awarded the Best Senior Female Lifter honor. Â
