Yanchev Highlights Noles at U23 European Championships

Tallahassee, Fla.  – Six members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams competed at the inaugural 2023 LEN European Championships that ran from Aug. 11-13 in Dublin, Ireland.  
 
Rising senior Yordan Yanchev represented Bulgaria and competed in the final of the men's 400m free, touching fifth with a time of 3:51.09, which was the fastest of this season and just off his personal best (3:50.25).
 
With only eight swimmers advancing to finals in each individual event, Yanchev earned a second swim by turning in the fifth-fastest time in prelims (3:51.44).  
 
Yanchev also placed 10th in the 800m free (8:08.88) behind a season-best time and 25th in the 200m free (1:50.56).
 
Newcomer Maysa Ratiu of Romania was just off the top eight in the women's 400m free as she placed ninth at 4:25.08, improving on her 15th-place seed. She also finished 17th in the 200m free (2:04.03) and 31st in the 50m free (26.79).
 
Rising sophomore Julia Mansson competed in all three of the women's breaststroke races for Team Sweden, finishing 21st in the 50m (32.77), 19th in the 100m (1:10.84), and 14th in the 200m (2:33.44).
 
After winning the bronze medal at the World University Games in the 50m free, rising junior Jokubas Keblys represented Lithuania and placed 12th in the men's 50m free (22.53) and finished 38th in the 50m fly (25.38), which was a career best time.
 
Representing Germany, newcomer Tobias Schulrath also swam in the men's 50m fly, finishing 13th (24.11). He also swam the 100m fly and placed 28th (54.12).
 
Rising sophomore Jaka Pusnik competed in the men's 200m free, 200m fly and 100m back for Slovenia. He placed 46th in the 200m free (1:54.79), 23rd in the 200m fly (2:05.35), and 31st in the 100m back (57.69).
