Noles Gear Up for U23 European Championships

Tallahassee, Fla. – Six members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams will be competing in the inaugural 2023 LEN European Championships that will run from Aug. 11-3 in Dublin, Ireland.
Returning Seminoles Yordan Yanchev (Bulgaria), Jaka Pusnik (Slovenia), Jokubas Keblys (Lithuania) and Julia Mansson (Sweden) will be in action along with newcomers Maysa Ratiu (Romania) and Tobias Schulrath (Germany).
Prelims will start at 4:30 a.m. (ET), and finals will take place at 1 p.m. Live results and stream can be found here.
Jokubas Keblys – Lithuania
50m fly, 50m free (22.23)
Keblys represented his country at the 2023 FISU World University games in Chengdu, China that took place during the first week of August. He took home the bronze medal in the men's 50m free with a time of 22.39. He also finished 28th in the 100m free at 50.99.
Prior to his junior season, Keblys won silver in the men's 50m free at the 2023 TYR Pro Swim Series – Westmont behind a personal best of 22.23. As a sophomore, he was named to the All-ACC Academic Team after he finished 16th in the 50 free (19.90) at the ACC Championships. Keblys also swam on the men's 400 free relay at the NCAA Championships in 2022.
He will be seeded seventh in the men's 50m free and will also compete in the 50m fly this weekend.
Julia Mansson – Sweden
50m breast (31.80), 100m breast (1:08.60), 200m breast (2:28.16)
Following her freshman season, Mansson took home the gold medal at the Swedish National Championships in the 200m breast with a time of 2:29.77 earlier this summer.
Mansson is the seventh seed in the 100m breast for this meet and she is also scheduled to swim the 50m breast and 200m breast.
As a freshman, Mansson was a part of the women's 200 medley relay team that participated at the NCAA Championships in 2023 and she also qualified individually in the 200 breast. She placed 11th in the 200 breast (2:10.74) and 17th (1:00.70) in the 100 breast at the ACC Championships and was voted as FSU's Freshman of the Year.
Jaka Pusnik – Slovenia
200m free (1:50.54), 200m fly (2:04.83), 100m back (57.49)
Pusnik brought home three medals from the Slovenian Summer Championships, taking silver in the 200m free (1:53.62) and bronze in both the 100m back (59.29) and 200m fly (2:07.40)
Pusnik joined the team in January of 2023, where he scored points in the 200 fly (1:45.70) at the ACC Championships. He will open the meet by swimming the 200m free and will be swimming right next to his teammate, Yanchev.
Maysa Ratiu - Romania
50m free (26.43), 200m free (2:01.37), 400m free (4:22.05)
Ratiu will join the Seminoles as a freshman for the 2023-24 season. A member of the Romanian National Team, Ratiu has competed at the 2019 World Junior Championships.
Ratiu is seeded 15th in the 400m free and just outside the top 16 in the 200m free (17th).
Tobias Schulrath - Germany
50m fly (23.75) 100m fly (52.64)
Schulrath will join the Seminoles as a freshman for the 2023-24 year. He took home two silver medals at the German National Championships in April, finishing second in the 100m free (50.57) and 50m fly (23.86). He also made the final of the 100m fly where he finished sixth at 53.68.
Schulrath has represented Germany since 2021 where he competed at the LEN European Junior Champs. He is seeded in the top 16 in both races (13th- 100m fly, 12th – 50m fly).
Yordan Yanchev – Bulgaria
200m free (1:50.31), 400m free (3:53.31), 800m free (8:15.39), 1500m free (16:02.88)
Prior to his senior season, Yanchev was a three-time Bulgarian Championships gold medalist. He won the 200m free (1:50.31), 400m free (3:55.65), and 800m free (8:17.58). Yanchev owns four LCM Bulgarian National Records.
A three-time NCAA qualifier, Yanchev broke his own FSU record as a junior in the 500 free, touching with a time of 4:12.97 at the ACC Championships for the bronze medal. He was voted as the FSU MVP for 2022-23.

Kurtdere Takes Homes Seven Medals at Turkish Nationals
Rising sophomore Utku Kurtdere won seven medals at the Turkish National Championships, which ran from Aug. 4-8. The country also hosted a short course meet prior to the long course event.
Kurtdere won silver in the 200m back, 200m IM, and 200m free in addition to the 4x100m free relay, where he turned in his fastest split of 49.87.
He added bronze in the 4x200m free relay and 100m back and was a part of the gold medal-winning 4x100 mixed free relay. He achieved personal best swims in the 200m free (1:50.48), 100m back (56.89), 200m back (2:03.66), and 200m IM (2:03.28).
