Academic Success Paramount For Bond, Seminoles

TALLAHASSEE – For Amy Bond, the head coach of the Florida State women's golf team, a semester wouldn't be complete without at least one tournament victory and the highest academic grade point average among all the Seminole athletic teams. For the fall semester of 2024, the winningest women's golf coach in school history can put a check mark next to both goals as her team won the team championship of the Landfall Tradition in October and finished the semester with a cumulative team GPA of 3.775.
The Seminoles were honored with three members of their team on the FSU Academic President's List and five on the FSU Academic Dean's List. The President's List signifies a perfect 4.0 grade point average, while the Dean's List includes all students who earned between a 3.0 and a 3.9 grade point average.
"It's the best gift a coaching staff can receive," said Bond of her team's continued academic success. "The greatest aspect of the team GPA, the individual honors, and having the best team GPA among every team at Florida State, is that the women on our team expect of themselves. When you look at the list of GPA's more than half of our team earned a 3.8 or better with three earning perfect grades of 4.0. We enjoyed a strong season on the course, and an even stronger semester in the classroom."
Under Bond, the Seminoles are one of only four teams in the nation that has played in each of the last eight NCAA Championship Finals. The Seminoles are joined by Southern California, Stanford, and Texas in an elite group of programs that have played during the final week of the season in each NCAA Championship since 2016.
"Success is a priority for our golf team, whether you are talking about academics or golf," said sophomore Bella Bugg, who was one of three Seminoles to earn a 4.0 GPA during the fall semester. "We all do a great job balancing both and I am not surprised that we continue to be top of the athletic department for overall GPA."
Bugg, a criminology major, has earned President's List honors twice (spring and fall semesters of 2024) and Dean's List honors once (fall semester of 2023) during her first three semesters on campus.
Bugg earned President's List honors along with junior Katherine Cook (hospitality and tourism management), and freshman Sophia Fullbrook (psychology).
Senior Kaylah Williams (3.9, psychology), Lottie Woad (3.9, sport management), Madison Hewlett (3.813, finance), Freya Russell (3.688, exploratory), and Christina Surcey (3.688, criminology) all earned Dean's List Honors.
"I'm happy to have maintained a good GPA this Fall semester," said Woad. "It means a lot to my parents."
The Seminoles earned a 3.892 team GPA during the SPRING 2024 competitive spring season – the highest in program history for a semester. As a team, the Seminoles earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.629 during the 2023 fall and 2024 spring semesters.
Florida State opens its spring semester at the IJGA Guadalajara Invitational at the Guadalajara (Mexico) Country Club (Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2025) and plays host to the Florida State Match Up at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club (March 21-23, 2025).
