OMAHA - The Florida State volleyball team's season came to a close on Thursday evening in a five-set loss to Ole Miss (25-20, 16-25, 25-23, 25-27, 13-15) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Nebraska.
Set one was back and forth early on with neither team able to create separation, but an ace by Emery Dupes gave the Noles a 15-12 lead at the media timeout. Ole clawed its way back into the set to take a 20-19 lead. A kill from Khori Louis tied the match on at 20 which started a 6-0 run behind the serve of Taylor Head to give the Noles the set.
Ole Miss led from start to finish in set two as they tied the match at one with a 25-16 win.
Ole Miss continued to keep hold of the momentum early in set three, but down 15-11, FSU used an 8-0 run behind the service of Head once again to turn the set on its head and take a 19-15 lead. The Rebels quickly took a 22-21 lead. Back-to-back errors from the Rebels tied the set at 23, and Head finished off the set with back-to-back kills to give the Noles the 2-1 advantage in the match.
The Rebels got off to a hot start in set four taking a 10-4 lead, but the Noles once again stormed back with a 9-3 run to tie the set at 13. The teams then traded points for the remainder of the set with Ole Miss getting the first set point at 24-23. Back-to-back kills from Iane Henke and Head gave the Noles match point, but the Noles were unable to capitalize falling 27-25.
The Noles had to put their rally caps on again in the fifth set as they were down 6-2 but continued to scratch and claw and ultimately tied the set at 12. Ole Miss scored the next two points for match point, but Dupes made a phenomenal play to continue the match as she dove into the stands to keep the ball alive. FSU eventually won the point thanks to a kill from Louis, but Ole Miss got the final point to win the match.
In her final match as a Seminole, Louis recorded a career-high 21 kills on 35 attempts while recording five blocks. Head was also great with 18 kills and three ace serves.
