Noles Beat No. 8 Florida in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida State beat No. 8 Florida, 12-8, Tuesday night at Condron Family Ballpark, improving to 15-0 and matching the third-best winning streak to begin a season in school history.
 
FSU's 12 runs were the Seminoles' most in Gainesville since a 14-6 win in 2007.
 
Eight of Florida State's nine starters had at least one hit, led by Drew Faurot and Daniel Cantu with three each. Cantu added two walks to reach safely in all five plate appearances, while Faurot added his 10th and 11th doubles after beginning Tuesday ninth nationally in the category.
 
Junior James Tibbs III hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to extend FSU's lead to 7-0. Tibbs leads FSU with eight home runs and 29 RBI this season.
 
Cam Smith added a pair of hits to push his hitting streak to a career-high 19 games.
 
Carson Dorsey earned the victory with 2.2 innings out of the bullpen. Starter Andrew Armstrong allowed a pair of unearned runs over 3.0 innings. Six FSU pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts, including seven in 2.1 innings by freshmen Hudson Rowan and Brady Louck.

  • FSU has scored at least seven runs in 15 consecutive games, a school record. The previous high was 12 straight games in March 1986 and March 1996.
  • FSU improved to 11-0 when scoring first.
  • James Tibbs hit a three-run home run to extend FSU's lead to 7-0. He leads FSU with 8 for the season and 35 for his career. His 29 RBI are also best on the team.
  • Tibbs has reached safely in 21 consecutive games, a career high.
  • Cam Smith singled before Tibbs' home run to extend his hitting streak to 19 games, the second-longest for a Seminole over the past 10 seasons and tied for the 25th-longest in program history.
  • Smith's 25-game on-base streak is the longest in the career of any active Seminole.
  • Marco Dinges singled in his first at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 9 games. Dinges added a sacrifice fly after entering Tuesday leading the country with five.
  • Daniel Cantu reached safely in all five plate appearances to extend his on-base streak to 14 games. Alex Lodise walked to extend his on-base streak to 9 games and matched a season high with three RBI.
  • Drew Faurot was 3-for-5 with two doubles. Faurot's 11 doubles are already two more than his freshman total (in 58 games). FSU has had a player earn at least three hits in all 15 games this season.
  • FSU's 12 runs were its most in Gainesville since a 14-6 win in 2007.
  • Starting pitcher Andrew Armstrong has still not allowed an earned run this season.
  • Pinch runner Jordan Williams stole two bases before scoring on a single in the eighth inning. He entered the game with two stolen bases in his career at FSU.
