Arnold’s Career-High 12 K’s Leads Noles Past Irish

TALLAHASSEE – Sophomore pitcher Jamie Arnold struck out a career-high 12 batters and improved to 5-0 in Florida State's 4-2 win over Notre Dame Saturday afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles improved to 17-0 – the last unbeaten team in the country and the second-best start in program history – and 2-0 in the ACC.
Arnold allowed just one run and four hits in 5.2 innings, his first earned run of the season to snap his streak at 25.1 innings. The southpaw has a 0.33 earned run average and 44 strikeouts on the season.
FSU never looked back after Jaime Ferrer's two-run home run in the first inning. The Irish got a run in the third before FSU added two more in the bottom of the fifth inning, on a Jaxson West single and a James Tibbs sacrifice fly.
Andrew Armstrong struck out four batters in 2.1 relief innings. Noah Short and Brennen Oxford combined for a scoreless ninth inning, with Oxford forcing a pop-up with runners on second and third to end the game.
Alex Lodise and Ferrer each had two hits for the Seminoles.

- At 17-0, Florida State is the last remaining undefeated team in the country. The 17-0 start is the second-best in program history, behind the 2007 team (23-0).
- The Noles current 19-game win streak is the 10th-longest in school history and longest since the 23-game stretch to begin the 2007 season.
- FSU's four runs are the Noles fewest this season and snaps a 16-game streak scoring at least seven runs, a school record.
- Sophomore Jamie Arnold allowed his first earned run of the season, snapping his streak at 25.1 innings. Arnold set a career-high with 12 strikeouts in 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and the one run. For the season, his ERA is 0.33.
- Arnold faced four batters with a runner on third base; the Irish grounded out, struck out and had a fly out, with one hit by pitch. For the season, opponents are 0-for-11 against Arnold with a runner on third base.
- Jaime Ferrer hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his sixth of the year and 22nd of his career. Ferrer has a season-high eight-game hitting streak.
- Ferrer's home run was the 12th consecutive game FSU has hit a home run, tied for the fourth-longest streak in program history.
- FSU improved to 12-0 when scoring in the first inning and when scoring first.
- Max Williams led off the bottom of the first with a triple; he leads FSU with three on the season.
- Cam Smith was hit by a pitch in the first inning to extend his on-base streak to 27 games. His five HBP are a team-high after not getting hit once as a freshman. Smith's 20-game hitting streak – tied for the longest at FSU since 2011 – ended.
- Daniel Cantu doubled to start the fifth inning, extending his hitting streak to five games. He has reached safely in 16 consecutive games.
- Saturday was the first game for FSU that the opponent did not record an error.
