Errors Prove Costly in Loss vs. Louisville

TALLAHASSEE – No. 17 Florida State (21-4, 4-4 ACC) fell to Louisville (17-10, 3-5 ACC) 5-2 Friday night at Dick Howser Stadium to even the series at one game a piece.
Four costly errors got the best of the Seminoles early, leading to four of the Cardinals five runs. Louisville took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning off the bat of Logan Beard, hitting a two-run home run deep into right-center field.
FSU rallied late in the ninth inning; trailing 5-1, FSU earned three singles to plate a run and bring the tying run to the plate, but a ground out to second base ended the game.
The Noles were led offensively by Marco Dinges, who had a great day at the plate as the Seminoles designated hitter. Dinges accounted for nearly half of the Seminoles team hits going 3-for-4, including a triple, and scored a run for the Noles.
Jamie Arnold (5-1) had his seventh start of the season for the Noles. Arnold pitched 6.0 innings, giving up five runs, one of which was earned, four hits, two walks, and struck out seven in the loss. He entered Friday as the nation's ERA leader at 0.52; that now sits at 0.66 after four of Louisville's runs were unearned.

- Starting pitcher Jamie Arnold allowed one earned run over 6.0 innings, with seven strikeouts. He has a 0.66 earned run average through seven starts and 40.2 innings this year.
- Third baseman Cam Smith hit a double and has reached safely in 35 consecutive games. He has a five-game hitting streak.
- Left fielder Jaime Ferrer was 2-for-4, pushing his on-base streak to 31 games.
- Marco Dinges was 3-for-4 with his first career triple and FSU's first run. He has reached safely in seven consecutive games and is 6-for-8 with four runs and five RBI in two games against Louisville.
- Florida State's four errors were a season high. FSU began Friday second in the country with just 14 errors on the season.
- Hudson Rowan struck out the side in the eighth inning. Of his 28 outs this season (9.1 innings), 19 have been via strikeout.
- Rowan and Noah Short combined to allowed just one hit in 3.0 relief innings. Over the last three games, the FSU bullpen has allowed just four hits and no runs in 13.1 innings.
- Cal Fisher was 1-for-1 with a walk and a ninth-inning RBI single in his first career ACC game. The freshman is hitting 5-for-11 with five RBI overall this year.
