Five-Run Fourth Inning Propels No. 18 Softball Past Notre Dame

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The No. 18 Florida State softball team (29-10, 10-3) took down the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (23-15, 7-9), 6-2, in front of 1,812 fans in the first game of their weekend series on JoAnne Graf Field in the Seminole Softball Complex. Friday's attendance was the sixth-largest crowd in program history and the fifth-largest crowd in a regular season game.
Notre Dame opened up the scoring on the night scoring a pair of early runs in the top of the first . The Seminoles responded at the bottom of the first inning when Kaley Mudge launched a triple to center field. Jaysoni Beachum followed up by hitting a RBI single allowing Mudge to score to cut the lead to one.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Seminoles took the lead and momentum of the game scoring five runs. It started with a Devin Flaherty double to left field immediately followed by a Mudge RBI to tie the game at two. Soon after, Beachum and Autumn Belviy (in to run for Mudge) had made it to first and third, respectively, before Kalei Harding came in and soared a ball over center of the wall for a three-run home run to give the Noles a 5-2 lead. The scoring did not stop there as Kennedy Harp hit a single RBI allowing Jahni Kerr to score and push the score to 6-2.
Ashtyn Danely threw most of the game for the Noles pitching a career high 6.1 innings while striking out . Emma Wilson finished out the game in the last inning for the Noles.
Florida State will face Notre Dame again on Saturday with the first pitch set for 6 p.m. on the ACC Network.
