Florida State Defeats Wake Forest

Winston-Salem, NC – The No. 28 Florida State women's tennis team (13-6, 7-3 ACC) defeated No. 31 Wake Forest (14-10, 5-5) 5-2 at the Wake Forest Tennis Center on Friday and extended its winning streak to six straight matches. 

"Today was a complete team effort in some tough playing conditions," head coach Jennifer Hyde said.  

The 29th-ranked duo of Vic Allen and Millie Bissett kicked off the match with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles. This win extended their doubles win streak to seven. Wake Forest responded with a 6-4 win at No. 2. 

After being down 5-2, Cade Cricchio and Laura Putz clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 3 to give Florida State the 1-0 lead. 

The Deacon Demons responded with a win at No. 6 singles to tie the match at 1-1. The remaining five matches went to third sets. 

Bissett gave the Seminoles the 2-1lead after she defeated Nevena Carton 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Kristyna Lavickova followed with an incredible 0-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5) victory against Sankavi Gownder at No. 5.  

The 46th-ranked Allen clinched the match with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 win against the 25th ranked Casie Wooten at No. 1 singles.

Senior Ellie Schoppe earned a 7-6 (1), 3-6, 7-6 (1) victory against the 124th-ranked Brooke Killingsworth at No. 2 singles to close out the match. 

Florida State returns to action Sunday at noon against No. 15 NC State at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. Live stats and video will be available on Seminoles.com.
