Coach Alameda 900 wins

Coach Alameda Earns 900th Career Win as FSU Evens Series with Louisville

4/6/2024 9:01:00 PM | Softball

LOUISVILLE - The No. 18 Florida State Softball (27-10, 8-3) scored seven runs in the final three innings to earn a come-from-behind 8-4 win over Louisville (23-15, 4-7) on Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium. Saturday marked Coach Alameda's 900th career win as a head coach. Alameda is one of 20 active coaches with 900 wins, but Alameda holds the seventh best winning percentage (.710) among active coaches

FSU got off to a slow start as the Cardinals pushed two runs across in the first inning before the Seminoles recorded an out. Ashtyn Danley came in and got the Noles out of the jam with a couple of ground outs and a nice play to get the runner out at home to hold the Cardinals to just two runs.

Each team was scoreless in the second and third innings, but Michaela Edenfield broke the silence with her 11th home run of the season to cut the lead to one. The Cardinals answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to bring their lead back to two.

FSU got the bats going in the top of the fifth as they scored three runs, all with two outs, to take the lead. Devyn Flaherty got things going with a single, and Jaysoni Beachum doubled to bring the Noles within one. Kalei Harding then hit a ground ball that went right under the second baseman's glove to tie the game. Edenfield then hit a ball to right center field that dropped right in front of two Cardinal outfielders to give FSU its first lead of the day.

The Cardinals responded with a run to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, but Makenna Reid came on and got a strikeout to leave runners on second and third.

The Seminoles capitalized on the Cardinals' mistakes again in the sixth inning as Kaley Mudge stepped into the box with the bases loaded with one out. Mudge hit a ground ball to the second baseman who committed her second error of the day, allowing Flaherty and Kennedy Harp to score. Beachum earned a RBI on a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to three.

Reid hung a zero on the board in the bottom of the sixth, and the Noles went back to work as Edenfield ended her successful day at the plate with her first career triple. Edenfield was a single short from hitting for the cycle. Krystina Hartley came on to run for Edenfield and would score on a ground out from Jahni Kerr to add some insurance.

Reid allowed one hit in the bottom of the seventh but struck out the final batter to give the Noles the win.

The two teams will play the rubber match tomorrow at noon on ACCNX.
