OMAHA, Neb. – Behind a pair of home runs from Jaime Ferrer and seven innings from starter Carson Dorsey, No. 8 Florida State (48-16) beat No. 12 Virginia (46-17) 7-3 Sunday afternoon at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. The Seminoles will now face the loser of the Tennessee and North Carolina contest in another elimination game Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. et.

Ferrer became the first player since 1998 with multiple four-RBI games in the College World Series, following up his performance vs. No. 1 Tennessee (two-run home run, two-run double) with a solo home run and three-run home run Sunday vs. the Cavaliers. Ferrer is the seventh Seminole and first since 2000 with three home runs in a single CWS.

Dorsey continued a torrid run in the postseason, allowing three runs over 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts. In 21.0 innings in the NCAA Tournament, Dorsey has a 2.14 ERA with 20 strikeouts. For the season, FSU is 9-2 in his 11 starts, including a 3-0 mark in the postseason.

James Tibbs drew a bases loaded walk against Jay Woolfolk to plate FSU's first run in the third inning. In the fourth, Ferrer connected for a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning to double the Seminole lead.

The Cavalier bullpen retired FSU's first two hitters of the fifth inning before Cam Smith doubled, Tibbs was intentionally walked and Marco Dinges hit an RBI single. That set the stage for Ferrer's second home run of the game, a three-run blast that against doubled FSU's lead from 3-0 to 6-0.

Alex Lodise hit a solo home run to begin the sixth inning, his eighth of the year.

Virginia scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning and another in the eighth, but Brennen Oxford allowed just one hit over the final 2.0 innings to secure the Seminole victory.
