Noles Advance to 18th Super Regional

6/2/2024 11:30:00 PM | Baseball

TALLAHASSEE – Sparked by home runs from Cam Smith and Max Williams, Florida State (45-15) scored nine runs in the fifth inning Sunday night to beat UCF (37-21) 12-4, winning the Tallahassee Regional and advancing to next weekend's Super Regionals. The Seminoles 18 Super Regional appearances are the most all-time.

Down 2-0 entering the fifth, Smith connected for a two-run home run, his second in as many days against the Knights. FSU followed with a two-run double by Jaime Ferrer, a two-run single from Jaxson West and a three-run homer from Williams to add some separation.

Smith, Ferrer and West were joined by first baseman Daniel Cantu, designated hitter Marco Dinges and starting pitchers Jamie Arnold and Carson Dorsey on the All-Region Team. FSU had seven of the 11 positions, with Arnold earning Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors.

The Knights connected for a two-run home run in the top of the first inning against FSU starter Conner Whittaker, but the junior allowed just two more hits over his 4.0 innings. Connor Hults (2-1) allowed two runs over 3.0 innings in the victory, with John Abraham and Joe Charles both striking out two batters in 1.0 innings of work.

UCF added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings before FSU plated three more in the seventh innings, providing the final margin.

Dinges and Williams each had two hits for FSU. The Seminoles added 10 walks and was hit by two pitches.
