Record-Setting Offense Powers Noles in Game 1

6/7/2024 4:59:00 PM | Baseball

TALLAHASSEE – Paced by a season-high 24 runs, Florida State (46-15) cruised to a 24-4 victory over UConn (35-25) in Game 1 of the Tallahassee Super Regional at Dick Howser Stadium on Friday afternoon.

FSU's 24 runs were the most recorded in NCAA Super Regional history and the 20-run margin of victory is also the highest ever in the Super Regional round. Florida State held both previous records, defeating Sam Houston State in 2017 by 19 runs (19-0) and scoring 23 vs. Texas A&M in 2011, a 23-9 victory.

The Seminoles scored eight unanswered runs in the first three innings, including back-to-back home runs from Marco Dinges and Jaime Ferrer in the bottom of the first, for an early 3-0 lead.

Alex Lodise opened the bottom of the second with a single before stealing second for his fifth stolen base of the season. Max Williams delivered a two-run shot over the right field fence, extending the lead to 5-0.

Cam Smith and James Tibbs both had milestone hits in the sixth inning, with Smith connecting on his 100th of the season and Tibbs following with the 200th of his career. FSU scored six runs in the frame and followed that with nine runs in the seventh inning, matching a season high.

Carson Doresy improved to 7-4 with 5.1 innings of one-run ball. After pitching 8.2 innings last week vs. Stetson to begin the NCAA Tournament, Dorsey has allowed just two earned runs in 14.0 innings this postseason.
