1/14/2025 5:30:00 PM | Men's Tennis

TALLAHASSEE - The No. 9 Florida State men's tennis team continues its homestand against Georgia State and No. 6 Arizona this week.

Florida State will play Georgia State on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before facing its first ranked match of the season against No. 6 Arizona on Saturday at 1 p.m. The matches are slated to be played outdoors at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

FSU has competed against Georgia State in three consecutive seasons and have won 18 of 19 matches in the series history. The top-10 matchup with Arizona will be the first meeting between the Seminoles and Wildcats since 2004.

The Seminoles improved to 4-0 after three 4-0 clinching sweeps over Florida Gulf Coast, Alabama State, and Georgia Southern in its first home weekend of the season. With the win over Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State stretches its 38 consecutive home opening match winning streak dating back to 1988.

Jamie Connel has begun the season in white-hot form, winning three straight-set matches in singles play and winning all seven completed sets on Courts 1 and 2. He defeated his Florida Gulf Coast opponent 6-1, 6-4 on Court 1 before blasting through Georgia Southern's competitor on Court 2 with a 6-3, 6-0 score. Connel also won all three doubles matches played, winning 18 of 20 games played with two different partners.

Connel earned the first ACC Player of the Week honor for his brilliant start to the season, the first conference honor of his career following his 2024 All-ACC Singles Third Team award.

Youcef Rihane and Alex Bulte had an incredible weekend, recording a top-75 ranked doubles win with a 6-1 scoreline in addition to the two doubles wins over FGCU and Alabama State. Rihane and Bulte entered the spring season as the No. 6 pairing in the nation following their 2024 NCAA Fall Doubles Championship semifinal appearance.

Rihane and Bulte earned the first ACC Doubles Team of the Week for their perfect weekend, the first time the duo have claimed the honor since 2022. Rihane has been named to the award in three of his four seasons played.

Corey Craig made his Seminole debut at home following his All-American fall season, the No. 9 player in the nation also made his debut on Court 1. Joshua Dous-Karpenschif and Azariah Rusher have each recorded a singles win on Courts 4-6 while Erik Schiessl and Jan Sebesta won their first singles matches as Seminoles.

Live video from the Speicher Tennis Center and stats will be available on Seminoles.com.
