PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - The Florida State softball team (1-1) kicked off its 2025 season on Thursday at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. FSU defeated Northern Colorado, 7-1, in game two of the day after they fell to No. 4 Oklahoma State, 9-6, in the first game of the day.Â
Â
Game Two (Florida State 7 Northern Colorado 1)
The Noles got off to a hot start in game two against Northern Colorado as the Noles scored two runs with two outs thanks to back-to-back singles from Isa Torres and Michaela Edenfield which allowed Katie Dack to bring them home on a double.Â
Â
Jahni Kerr led off the second inning with a triple, and Kennedy Harp brought her home on a single. Harp advanced to third thanks to an error by the Northern Colorado outfield and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly from Annabelle Widra to make it 4-0.Â
Â
The Bears scored an unearned run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to one, but freshman Jazzy Francik shut down the Bears in her first-ever collegiate start. Francik went six innings without allowing an earned run while striking out four and allowing just one walk.
Â
The Noles added some insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning thanks to a RBI single from Kerr and two-RBI double from Harp to give the Noles a commanding 7-1 lead.Â
Â
Widra came in to pitch the final inning and struck out the final batter to finish off the Bears.Â
Â
Harp finished 4-for-4 against the Bears with three RBI. Isa Torres was 3-for-4 while Kerr was 2-for-4 with two RBIÂ Â
Â
Game One (Florida State 6 Oklahoma State 9)
In game one of the day, it was the Cowgirls who jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings, but Jaysoni Beachum picked up right where she left off in her freshman season with a bomb down the left field line to get the Noles on the board. Oklahoma State got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but the Noles responded as Kerr led off the inning with a walk before Harp put two runners in scoring position with a double. Widra picked up an RBI on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to two, but the Noles were unable to bring any more runs across.Â
Â
Oklahoma State scored five runs in the fifth and sixth inning to push its lead to 9-2. FSU did not go down without a fight as Harp and Beachum each hit two-run home runs to cut the lead to three, but the rally stopped there.Â
Â
Beachum and Harp led the way with five RBI and two hits apiece. Harp recorded two hits as well for the Seminoles. Harp ended the day going 6-for-7 from the plate.Â
Â
FSU will be back tomorrow against Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. on FloSports.Â
