Noles Use Hot Start to Roll Past Bulldogs

2/7/2025 5:04:00 PM | Softball

PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico - Katie Dack hit a grand slam in the first inning to help the No. 12 Florida State softball team (2-1) roll past Louisiana Tech (1-1), 6-3, on Friday afternoon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The Noles got off to a great start as Isa Torres beat out a throw to lead off the game with an infield single. Jaysoni Beachum and Michaela Edenfield drew back-to-back walks to set the stage for Dack. Dack smashed a 2-0 pitch deep to left field to give the Noles a 4-0 lead before the Bulldogs could record an out. The Noles kept the scoring going with an Amaya Ross single. Hallie Wacaser hit into a fielder's choice and stole second then Kennedy Harp scored her on a triple where the left fielder lost the ball in the sun.

Starting off with a 5-0 lead, Annabelle Widra got her first start as a Seminole was fantastic, retiring the first six batters over the course of the first two innings. Widra finished her outing after 2.2. innings, allowing just one hit with one strikeout without surrendering a walk.

The Noles added another run in the top of the third as Wacaser led off the inning with a single. Freshman Addie DeLong came in to pinch run for Wacaser and immediately stole second and advanced all the way home thanks to a couple of errors from the Bulldogs to give the Noles a 6-0 lead.

LA Tech cut the lead in half with three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Noles got great bullpen outings from Julia Apsel and Jazzy Francik as the two threw the final three innings and allowed just two hits while striking out seven. Apsel earned her first win as a Seminole while Francik earned her first collegiate save.

FSU will round out the Puerto Vallarta Collegiate Challenge tomorrow as they will face Northern Colorado at 5 p.m. and No. 4 Oklahoma State at 8 p.m. Both games can be seen live on FloSports.
