Seminoles Take Two At Home

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida State women's tennis team (5-1) defeated Georgia State (0-3) 4-0 and Mercer (1-5) 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center.

Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Eva Shaw began the afternoon with a six-game sweep of Pragnya Kumar and Sierra Sandy of Georgia State on Court 1. After a loss on Court 3, all eyes were on Court 2 as Millie Bissett and Laura Putz battled back from being down 2-5, to clinch the doubles point defeating Maria Paredes and Francesca Miglio of Georgia State 7-6 (6).

Shaw captured the first singles point for FSU, defeating Miglio in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 on Court 2. Putz earned a straight-sets victory on Court 4, defeating Sandy 6-1, 6-1. Maelie Monfils clinched the match for the Noles on Court 6 defeating Luciana Galvez 6-4, 6-1.  

Bissett and Putz continued their doubles dominance in the afternoon's second match, defeating Marina Quinones and Ines Homberg of Mercer 6-0 on Court 2. Shaw and Parra Romero clinched the doubles point for the Noles, defeating Marie Bannmeyer and Dzhastina Mikhnova of Mercer 6-1, improving to 5-0 this season. 

No. 119 Deatherage gave the Noles their first singles point, defeating Mikhnova 6-2, 6-2. Deatherage improves to 10-1 overall this season, including 5-0 in the spring. The Noles ripped off three more singles victories starting with Shaw defeating Quinones 6-3, 6- 1. Parra Romero defeated Bannmeyer 6-0, 6-2 on Court 3, followed by Cade Circchio defeating Lea Kozierowski 6-3, 6-1. The Noles went on to win six of the seven singles matches after Maelie Monfils closed out the day with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Jelena Gojkovic. 

Florida State travels to Tampa on Friday, Feb. 14 for a match against USF before returning home for another Sunday doubleheader which is set to host Air Force and Florida A&M University beginning at noon.
