No. 9 Softball Secures Another ACC Series Win Over Cal

BERKELEY, California - The No. 9 Florida State softball team (39-6, 13-1) hit three home runs and allowed just three hits in a 11-3 win over Cal (27-13, 6-8) to secure the series over the Bears.Â
The Noles wasted no time getting going offensively as Isa Torres singled to give the Noles an immediate baserunner. Michaela Edenfield drew a walk, and Katie Dack singled to left field with two outs to get the Noles on the board.Â
The Bears took advantage of an error and were able to push a run across to tie the game. The Noles took advantage of a two-out hit by pitch and an error from the Bears to put a runner in scoring position for Jahni Kerr who drove in her fifth run in the past three games to give FSU a lead. Edenfield hit a flyball deep to right field that bounced off the fielder's glove to clear the bases and give FSU a 4-1 lead after two.Â
Angelee Bueno singled in the top of the third to put a runner aboard for Ashtyn Danley hit her first career home run to left field to put the Noles up 6-1.Â
Julia Apsel got the start in the circle for the Noles and threw three hitless innings. The Bears hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 6-2, but FSU responded right back as Amaya Ross hit her third home run of the season in the top of the fifth to make it 7-2.Â
Torres picked up her second hit of the day in the sixth inning, and after Edenfield walked, Jaysoni Beachum launched her 11th home run of the season to the left field stands.Â
Cal got one run back on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. FSU got the run back in the top of the seventh as Shelby McKenzie drove in Harp to put the Noles up 11-3.
Francik came in to relieve Apsel in the fifth and pitched the rest of the game to pick up her sixth save of the season and move in a tie for second all-time for most saves in a single season. Apsel was credited with the win to improve to 12-0 this season.Â
The Noles will look for the series sweep tomorrow at 3 p.m. on ACCNX.
