Seminoles, Steen Play Host To Duke On Saturday At 3:45

TALLAHASSEE – Leading the Atlantic Coast Conference in any statistical category is an incredible feat.
Leading the ACC in the offensive rebound category is a Herculean feat because you have to bring your maximum effort each and every minute you are on the court in each and every game.
It won't bring players the glamour that leading the league in scoring or rebounding will. It's not a statistic that will have your named splashed across Instagram, and it's not the category that will generally make the top-10 plays of the day.
In fact, offensive rebounding wasn't an official ACC statistic until the 1991-92 season when Sharone Wright of Clemson led the ACC with a 4.3 offensive rebounds per game average.
As the Seminoles prepare to face No. 5/6 Duke on Saturday at the Donald L. Tucker Center, Florida State's Alex Steen is working hard to add his name to a very select list of the great offensive rebounders in ACC history. It's a list that includes North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough, Sean May, and Armando Bacot; Josh Howard of Wake Forest, and Duke's Zion Wiliamson and Carlos Boozer.
The Seminoles play host to the Blue Devils for a 3:45 tip that will be broadcast nationally on CBS Television with Brad Nessler and Bill Raftery on the call. Jeff Culhane and Jacob Ridenhour will have the radio call on the Seminoles Sports Network.
Tickets are available for Tuesday's game at Seminoles.com. Tickets for Florida State students are free; they can be claimed here.
The first 1,500 fans will receive a custom co-branded wireless cell phone charger with the FSU spear presented by EVerged. EVerged is the official renewable energy partner of Florida State Athletics.

Steen enters Saturday's game against Duke ranked in the ACC's top 20 in rebounding with a team-leading 6.4 rebounds per game average and leads the conference in offensive rebounding with a 3.4 average. He's one of only two players in the league with 48 or more offensive rebounds. He's pulled down more offensive rebounds than defensive rebounds in six of his first 13 games as a Seminole.
"I think the main aspect of my game that makes me a strong rebounder is my desire to be relentless and never giving up on any rebound," said Steen. "I give 100 percent effort on crashing the glass when I go after every rebound I can get my hands on. I have worked very hard throughout my career to position myself and time my jumps to where I have a high chance of getting every rebound I go after."
Steen has always been an excellent rebounder.
As a prep star, Steen averaged a double-double of 23.0 points and 13.0 rebounds as he earned All-State Third-Team honors in Florida as a senior at Arnold High School in Panama City Beach.
During his first three seasons at Florida Southern College before he transferred to Florida State for the 2025-26 season, he totaled 708 rebounds and an 8.1 rebounds per game average. He totaled 627 rebounds in his final two seasons for an average of 10.6 rebounds per game.
Steen was named the Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Year and was a member of the conference's All-Defensive Team in both 2024 and 2025.
As Florida State's leading rebounder this season, he begins play on Saturday with 792 career rebounds and needs just eight to reach 800 rebounds for his career.
"Alex is one of the more consistent guys I have coached at any level," said first-year Seminole head coach Luke Loucks. "I'm blown away and really excited about what he brings to our team in terms of being the glue guy and being a non-stop, relentless worker."
Steen earned his first career double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds in Florida State's victory over Cal State Bakersfield. He's totaled seven or more rebounds in eight of his first 13 games with 10 coming against Bakersfield and nine coming against both Mississippi Valley State and Jacksonville.
Steen has earned at least four offensive rebounds in eight games, including four at No. 10 Florida, and five each against Texas A&M and No. 24 Georgia.
"I think the characteristics of a great rebounder are physicality, effort, hustle, positioning, and determination."
Each of those five words describes Steen perfectly.
Another of Steen's responsibilities in his first season as a Seminole is stepping in for the opening tip of each of the 13 games he has played through the first two months of the season.
Steen has won the first possession of the game eight times for the Seminoles, including in Florida State's ACC opener against North Carolina in Chapel Hill earlier this week.
"I feel my strengths that help me win many of the opening tips include my ability to make the right decisions on timing, knowing when to jump even when the opponent is taller than I am."
Loucks, who led the Seminoles to the 2012 ACC Tournament championship, sees Steen's work ethic each day in practice and in every game.
"Alex brings that energy every single day," said Loucks. "He's so much fun to be around and that's contagious. We need guys like Alex who are willing to do whatever it takes to win games."
Steen's ability to have fun (and rebound) is among his greatest characteristics.
"I'm enjoying my Florida State experience every day," said Steen. "The environment in practice and in games with both the players and the coaches makes being a basketball player at Florida State fun. It's a great opportunity to compete in a great environment for me and all of my teammates."
All while he competes as a defensive leader in the ACC.
