Fullbrook Leads No. 18 Seminoles Through Opening Day of Florida State Match Up

TALLAHASSEE – Sophomore Sophia Fullbrook is in a tie for first place in the individual standings, and the No. 18 ranked Florida State women's golf team is in second place after the first round of the 13th Annual Florida State Match Up at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club. Fullbrook carded a 3 under par score of 69 and is tied with Jasmine Leovao of Eastern Michigan for the top individual spot as 10 players played under par golf on the first day of the championship. The Seminoles are three strokes behind Tulsa with two rounds remaining to be played.
With three players in the top 11 of the individual standings, Tulsa led the field of 69 players and 12 teams in par 3 and par 4 scoring as well as with a total of 21 birdies. Florida State led the field in the first round on the par 5 scoring holes, and totaled 16 birdies. Leovao totaled five birdies while Fullbrook carded three birdies and the fourth eagle of her career.
"As to be expected, we were a little nervous to start, but I thought we settled in and played pretty well," said head coach Amy Bond. "I think we need to clean up a few things. Overall I am happy with how we played in round one."
Fullbrook carded her 69 with three brides on her front nine and the fourth eagle of her career on hole No. 13. She began the round par-bogey-birdie and was even par after her first three holes. Fullbrook was at or under par over her final 17 holes. She carded her eagle on hole No. 13 to move to 3 under par for the round and completed her first round in the 60's of the spring.
Fullbrook is ranked No. 36 in the collegiate individual rankings by Scoreboard by Clippd. Her eagle in the first round was her first in competition at Seminole Legacy.
Seminole freshman Haruhi Nakatani is in a tie for third place as she carded a 2 under par score of 70. She totaled a team leading six birdies and was as many as three strokes under par during the round. Nakatani was never more than one stroke over par and as many as 3 strokes under par during the round.
Sophomore Elin Pudas Remler is in a tie for 11th place in the individual standings with an even par score of 72. She totaled four birdies and was 1 stroke over par in her front nine and 1 stroke under par on her back nine. Pudas Remler was three under par over her final 10 holes of the round.
Sophomore Layla Pedrique and freshman Haley Davis, who are playing as individuals, carded identical scores of 74 and are in a tie for 24th place in the individual standings. Pedrique totaled two birdies with Davis totaled one birdie and 15 holes scored a par or better.
Florida State begins play on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. The Seminoles will play with North Florida and Tulsa in the second round. Admission and parking at the Seminole Legacy Golf Course are both free.
