No. 9 Softball Falls Short in Extra Innings at No. 23 Stanford

 STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 9 Florida State softball team (36-7, 12-3) fell 6-5 in eight innings to No. 23 Stanford (26-12, 12-6), on Sunday afternoon. 
 
For the second-straight game, the Noles struck first as Jaysoni Beachum singled, and Ashtyn Danley walked to get some traffic on the base paths. Bella Ruggiero came through with a RBI single to put the Noles up 1-0. 
 
Stanford responded with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead after one. 
 
After scoreless second and third innings, Marin Heller and Makenna Sturgis hit back-to-back singles to set the stage for Isa Torres who delivered with her 10th home run of the year to put the Noles up 4-3. 
 
Beachum blasted her seventh homer of the season over the center field wall in the top of the sixth to put the Noles up 5-3. 
 
Stanford fought back to tie the game at five in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Ashtyn Danley responded with a scoreless inning in the seventh to send the game into extras, but the Cardinal hit a two-out single with the bases loaded in the eighth inning to take the series finale.  
 
The Noles will return home to face North Carolina. First pitch for Friday's game will be at 6 p.m. on ACCNX.

Of Note
  • Isa Torres hit a three-run home run to put the Noles up 4-3 in the top of the fourth inning. It was Torres' 10th home run this season, a new career high.
  • Jaysoni Beachum went 3-for-5 today with a home run and has now reached base safely in 31 consecutive games which is tied for the seventh-longest streak in FSU history.
  • Beachum hit her 34th career home run which tied her for ninth all-time in FSU history with Cali Harrod. 
  • Bella Ruggiero drove in a run in the top of the first to put the Noles up 1-0. Ruggiero picked up a RBI in all three games this series.
