No. 12 Softball Completes Senior Weekend Sweep Against UNC

4/19/2026 2:52:00 PM | Softball

TALLAHASSEE — The No. 12 Florida State softball team (39-7, 15-3 ACC) closed out its Senior Weekend in dominant fashion Sunday, defeating North Carolina (31-14, 9-12 ACC), 10-2, in five innings to secure the series sweep. The Seminoles improved to 81-27 all-time against the Tar Heels.

Jazzy Francik (17-2) earned the win, striking out three over 3.1 innings while allowing four hits and three walks. Ashtyn Danley and Makenna Reid combined in relief to keep North Carolina in check, with Danley delivering a key strikeout to halt a Tar Heels rally and Reid allowing just one hit in 1.1 innings.

At the plate, the Seminoles strung together timely hits throughout the afternoon. Isa Torres continued her standout season with another multi-hit performance, while Bella Ruggiero drove in an early run to extend her recent surge. Danley provided the biggest moment of the game. The junior went 2-for-4 with a career-high five RBIs, including a three-run home run during the fourth inning that broke the game open.

Florida State struck first in the opening inning when Torres singled, reached second on a passed ball and scored on Ruggiero's RBI single.

North Carolina answered in the third on a Lexie Roberts RBI single, but Francik limited the damage with a strikeout with the bases loaded to keep the game tied at 1-1. The Seminoles seized control in the fourth. Consecutive hits from Ruggiero and Kennedy Harp set the stage for a two-run single from Hayley Griggs. Jaysoni Beachum followed with an RBI single before Danley's three-run home run pushed the lead to 7-1.

North Carolina added a run in the fifth on a home run by Emily LeGette, but Florida State quickly responded. A Harp double, a single from Griggs, and a Torres walk left the bases loaded, and a Beachum walk scored Angelee Bueno. With the bases still loaded Danley smashed a single to left field running in Griggs and Torres, ending the game 10-2.

Florida State returns to JoAnne Graf Field on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to face No. 7 Florida in its final home game of the regular season.
