TALLAHASSEE - Florida State softball's star shortstop Isa Torres earned two National Player of the Week honors from D1Softball and Softball America this afternoon. It is the second time Torres has won a National Player of the Week award this season.Â
The nation's top hitter continued to shine last week as she displayed her power as the junior hit five home runs in four games this past week. Torres got her week started in a big way by hitting two solo home runs to lead the Noles to a rivalry win over No. 8 Florida. Torres continued her hot streak and hit two more home runs in the series opener against Georgia Tech. Torres added one more home run in Sunday's extra-innings win over the Yellow Jackets.Â
Torres has had a power surge as of late as the Georgetown, Texas, native has hit nine home runs in her last 13 games and is up to 16 home runs this season. Prior to this season, Torres has never had more than nine home runs in a season. The National Player of the Year candidate leads the country with a .569 batting average, is second in the country with a .633 on-base percentage, third in the country with 82 hits and seventh in the country with a 1.083 slugging percentage. Torres is also top 20 in the country in total runs and triples.Â
Torres has also been the best defender in the country this season. Torres has zero errors in 142 chances and is the only infielder in the country to have zero errors in 125 or more chances.Â
