TALLAHASSEEÂ - The No. 9 Florida State softball team (49-9) fell to Stetson (37-20) by a final score of 8-3 to open the Tallahassee Regional on Friday afternoon at the Seminole Softball Complex.Â
Â
Florida State finished with three runs on seven hits and drew three walks, while Stetson recorded eight runs on 12 hits. Six different Seminoles recorded a hit, with freshman Anna Hinde and junior Ashtyn Danley notching home runs. Notable was junior Kennedy Harp, who posted a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with a double.Â
Â
The Hatters jumped on the board early with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning, but an answer would come quickly as Hinde crushed a first-pitch home run over dead center in the bottom of the inning.
Â
Stetson responded with a three-run home run in the top of the third to extend their lead to 5-1, yet Florida State generated a response in the bottom of the frame again. Junior Jaysoni Beachum got aboard with a two-out single up the middle and was sent home as Danley powered her eighth homer of the season over center field, cutting the deficit to two.Â
Â
Two more runs came for the Hatters as a two-out single escaped the right side in the fifth, and would add their eighth run with an RBI single in the sixth. The Seminoles were unable to respond in the following innings.Â
Â
Sophomore Jazzy Francik (22-3) pitched 2.2 innings that allowed five earned runs on five hits while striking out five. Danley and freshman Bella Dimitrijevic contributed 4.1 innings of relief, combining for four strikeouts and only one earned run allowed. Stetson's Hayley Arnold (11-3) logged the win.
