No. 9 Softball Advances to Saturday Night's Game Against Stetson with Win Over Gamecocks

TALLAHASSEEÂ - The No. 9 Florida State softball team run-ruled Jacksonville State by a final score of 11-0 in the Tallahassee Regional on Saturday afternoon at the Seminole Softball Complex. The win sends the Seminoles (50-9) to Game 5 of the regional tournament, and eliminates the Gamecocks (45-16) from postseason play.

With the win, FSU improves to 115-84 in NCAA Tournament play with an 80-44 mark in NCAA Regionals. Florida State improves to 7-2 all-time over Jacksonville State, with a 5-0 record in Tallahassee. The Seminoles have shut out the Gamecocks in each of their last three meetings, previously defeating JSU 10-0 and 8-0 in the 2018 Tallahassee Regional.Â

The 14-hit performance from the Noles is their best offensive performance since Mar. 8, 2026 where they put up 15 knocks against Coastal Carolina. Seven Seminoles recorded a hit in the win, five of which had multi-hit days. Three different Noles hit a home run.

Junior Isa Torres and freshman Makenna Sturgis each posted 3-for-3 performances at the plate, with Sturgis earning her 14th double and Torres going a home run shy of the cycle. Freshman Hayley Griggs and junior Kennedy Harp each knocked their sixth home run of the season and first of the postseason, while junior Jaysoni Beachum earned her ninth of the year and led the team with four RBI.Â

It wouldn't take long for the Seminoles to get on the board, kicked off by a solo home run from Harp in the top of the second inning. The offense continued to roll as sophomore Shelby McKenzie followed with a single and Sturgis quickly doubled her to third base.Â

With runners in scoring position, Torres tripled off of the top of the left field wall, extending the Seminole lead to 3-0. She would later plate Florida State's fourth run after junior Jaysoni Beachum singled into shallow left field.

The Seminoles extended their lead in the fourth inning with a string of five consecutive hits. Freshman Hayley Griggs sent a long ball over center field to extend the lead to five, while Sturgis and Torres put together back-to-back singles to get aboard. A crushing swing over dead center by Beachum plated three runs, pushing the game into run-rule territory at 8-0.Â

Finally, the offensive effort was capped in the top of the fifth. An RBI double by Griggs scored McKenzie from first base, and she advanced to third on an error by the catcher. An RBI single from Sturgis and RBI double from Torres plated a pair of insurance runs, rounding out the scoring at 11-0.Â

Sophomore Jazzy Francik (23-3) and senior Makenna Reid pitched the combined, five-inning shutout. Francik gave up just three hits and struck out four in three innings, while Reid closed out the final two innings by relenting a lone hit and earning two K's.Â
