Top-Seeded Softball Advances to ACC Semifinal with Win Over Georgia Tech

5/7/2026 1:59:00 PM | Softball

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  —  The No. 10 Florida State softball team (47-8) gutted out a 2-1 win over Georgia Tech (30-27) to advance to its 20th-consecutive ACC Semifinal in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament on Thursday in Charlottesville, Va.

The ACC Pitcher of the Year Jazzy Francik got the start for the Noles in the circle and was terrific in the pitcher's duel. Francik went 5.2 innings and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out four. Francik improved to 21-2 on the season. Ashtyn Danley relieved Francik in the sixth and retired all four batters she faced on just nine pitches.

The Yellow Jackets were able to strike first in the third inning as they were able to hit a leadoff triple, and the runner eventually came home on a sac fly.

The Noles responded as Makenna Sturgis hit a leadoff single before the game entered a 16-minute weather delay. The Noles put the pressure on after the delay as Jaysoni Beachum drew a walk, and Anna Hinde delivered with a two-out single down the right field line to tie the game at one.

After a scoreless fourth, the Noles got the ultimate winning run in the fifth. Isa Torres hit a one-out double to left center, and Beachum drew another walk. Anna Hinde and Bella Ruggiero were hit by back-to-back pitches to give the Noles the lead.

The Noles did not allow another hit in the final two innings to close out the game.

The Noles will play eight Stanford or Louisville tomorrow at 1 p.m. on the ACC Network with a trip to the ACC Championship Game on the line.
