No. 20! Softball Wins 20th ACC Tournament Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The No. 10 and top-seeded Florida State softball team (49-8) defeated three seed No. 16 Virginia Tech (46-10) in the ACC Tournament Championship by a final score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Palmer Park in Charlottesville, Va.Â

With the victory, Florida State secured its 20th ACC Tournament Championship and its 10th under head coach Lonni Alameda, going in conjunction with its 19th ACC Regular Season title awarded a week prior. The title is their first since 2023 and is their ninth in the last 12 ACC Tournament Championships.

The Seminoles have won eight of their last nine matchups with the Hokies and improve their all-time record over Virginia Tech to 39-21.

Jazzy Francik (22-2) delivered an impressive start and relief appearance in a pitchers duel, going a total of six innings and allowing just three hits and no earned runs while striking out six Hokie batters. The ACC Pitcher of the Year threw 4.2 innings in her start before exiting the game in the fifth, later re-entering in the sixth and escaping a bases-loaded jam. Francik then retired the side in order in the top of the seventh to secure the title and her second win of the tournament.

Virginia Tech would strike first, scoring on an error in the top of the first inning. Florida State answered back in the second inning after Kennedy Harp hammered an RBI double to the centerfield wall, scoring Bella Ruggiero from first base. Harp advanced to third base on the throw to home, and later swiped home plate on a passed ball to turn the lead over to the Seminoles, 2-1, which they would fiercely defend in the following frames.

The three hits of the afternoon belonged to Harp, Anna Hinde and Makenna Sturgis while the team drew five free bases. Hinde and Harp showed off the power with their fifth and seventh doubles of the season, respectively.

Florida State will await its NCAA Tournament seeding on during the selection show on Sunday, May 10, which will air on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. NCAA Regionals will begin on Friday, May 15 and play through Sunday, May 17.
