LOS ANGELES - Florida State women's golf rising junior Sophia Fullbrook led Great Britain & Ireland at the 44th Curtis Cup, which was held at June 12-14 at the Bel-Air Country Club.
Fullbrook claimed four points for the R&A, leading the team. The United States won the Curtis Cup, 13-7.
On Friday, Fullbrook teamed up with Patience Rhodes in Friday Four-Ball. The pair jumped in front early and led by five after the seventh hole. Despite a late push from the Americans, Fullbrook and Rhodes put the first point on the board for the R&A, 2&1. The pair dropped its foursome match in the afternoon 3&2.
Fullbrook and Rhodes pulled through in Saturday Four-Ball, breaking the tie on the fifth hole. The pair extended its lead and added another point, 3&2 over Anna Davis and Avery Weed from the USA.
Great Britain and Ireland grabbed two points in Saturday Foursomes, as Fullbrook and Rhodes continued to shine in their partnership, holding the lead throughout all 18 holes, defeating Kary Hollenbaugh and Kelly Xu, 2 up.
We played pretty solid the whole day, Fullbrook said. We played a bit harder coming in on the stretch, but we were putting great.
Fullbrook faced Weed in Sunday Singles. Fullbrook struck first, breaking the tie on the fifth hole, but the match went back and forth until the 10th when Fullbrook took back the lead with a par. She extended her lead to two after a birdie on the 12th and added another following an eagle on the 15th. Despite a late push from Weed, Fullbrook was victorious, 1 up, closing the Curtis Cup with a 4-1 record.
I knew me and Patience were a good duo, Fullbrook added. We've played together before. Our games are so similar, and our yardages are so similar. So it was nice to have each other out. But to go win an individual point today, I was so happy.
