FSU and UofL Play to Goalless Draw

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 22 Florida State soccer team tied Louisville 0-0 on Sunday afternoon at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky.
Returning to the pitch for the first time in 16 days, the Seminoles (4-1-3) shut out their opponent for the fourth time this season as the Cardinals (8-1-2) extended their unbeaten streak to 10 in a row. While UofL remains unbeaten at home in 18 of its last 19 games, the Cards were held to a draw for just the third time in that stretch.
Louisville had nine shots to Florida State's three and both teams had one shot on goal. Corners were 8-2 for UofL and fouls were even at nine each. One card was shown in the match, a yellow to the Cardinals.
Junior midfielder Shaneil Buckley had two of the Seminoles' shots and one shot on goal. Junior forward Wrianna Hudson also posted a shot. Sophomore goalkeeper Kate Ockene saved the only shot on goal she faced and earned her third clean sheet of the season and eighth of her career.
After a quiet opening 10 minutes, Louisville earned a free kick in the final third in the 14th minute followed by a corner kick, but neither set piece resulted in a shot, as the FSU defense cleared it away each time. The Seminoles got their first corner in the 20th minute.
Sophomore Nawreen Ahmad cleared a ball off the line in the 24th minute shortly after a Louisville free kick. Several minutes later, two good passes on the run led to a good chance for Florida State, but a final shot on goal was not recorded.
The first official shot of the contest was sailed just high from distance by the Cardinals in the 29th minute, and UofL's second shot was wide in the 33rd.
Louisville had a good chance, its best so far in the contest, in the 48th minute that resulted in a shot just high.
Buckley registered her first shot in the 53rd minute, which was over the crossbar.
The Cardinals then had several chances in the final third, with a trio of corner kicks, but the Florida State defense prevented a shot on each. Junior defender Janet Okeke also made a nice play to poke the ball away from a UofL attacker as she neared the penalty box.
Buckley put a shot on goal in the 73rd minute that was saved, and Ockene made her one save in the 81st minute following a corner kick.
The Seminoles had momentum in the final 10 minutes, and registered a good chance in the 84th minute, but the shot from inside the penalty area was high. That proved to be the final shot for either team in the Sunday matinee.
Florida State travels to Clemson for a Sunday afternoon matchup on October 4 at 3:30 p.m. ET.
