Bryce Hubbart started on the mound and pitched four innings with four strikeouts, zero walks, and seven hits allowed. Crowell entered in relief in the fifth inning and earned his sixth win of the season, allowing no walks or runs.
Six Seminoles had multiple hits, including a career-high three from catcher Colton Vincent. Alex Toral led FSU with four RBI – on a two-run home run and a two-run single – and redshirt senior Reese Albert hit his first home run of the season.
The scoring started early for the Noles with an RBI double from Brett Roberts in the first, scoring Jaime Ferrer.
A six-run third was the highlight of the day for FSU, tying its season high for runs in the third. Vincent and Tyler Martin hit back-to-back singles to open the inning, then Ferrer hit his team-leading 17th double to score both baserunners.
Roberts notched his second hit of the day to reach base, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A double from James Tibbs brought Ferrer and Roberts home to force a pitching change for the Cavaliers.
Toral hit his 14th home run of the season to plate Tibbs. Toral leads the team in home runs and RBI this season.
FSU dropped two in the center field gap back-to-back in the fourth with a double from Martin and an RBI single from Jordan Carrion. The scoring continued in the fourth as Carrion came home due on a fielding error off Roberts’ at-bat, forcing another pitching change for the Cavaliers.
The Seminoles surrendered three runs to Virginia in the fourth on three successive hits, but Hubbart struck out the final batter to end the inning.
After a couple quiet innings for Florida State, Albert – a defensive replacement for the Seminoles in the fifth inning – went yard for the first time this season to add two more to the Noles’ tally.
Toral plated two more with a single in the eighth off the first pitch of his at-bat.
