Softball’s Makenna Reid Named Top 25 Finalist for TUCCI/NFCA Freshman of the Year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Florida State freshman Makenna Reid picked up another honor on Friday as she was named one of 25 finalists for the 2023 TUCCI/NFCA Freshman of the Year award. This is the second consecutive year a Seminole has been named a top 25 finalist for the award as Michaela Edenfield was named a finalist last season.
Reid has been dominant in the circle all season for the Seminoles as she has a perfect 10-0 record. In 55.2 innings pitched, Reid has allowed just eight earned runs for a staggering 1.01 ERA. All of Reid’s eight earned runs have come against teams ranked in the top 15. Reid has not given un an earned run in 18 appearances against teams not ranked in the top 15. Reid has also recorded four saves this season which ranks third on FSU’s all-time list for saves in a single season.
Reid has been nearly unstoppable in conference play as she has allowed just one earned run in 24 innings for an ACC-leading 0.29 ERA. She holds a 3-0 record to go along with three saves in ACC play.
On May 11, the list will be trimmed to the top 10 and the three finalists will be released on May 25. The 2023 TUCCI/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year will be announced on May 30. The list of 25 was selected by the NFCA. The top 10, top three and winner are voted on by the NFCA Division I All-America Committee. If a nominated student-athlete did not make the top 25, they can still be in consideration for the top 10.
