TALLAHASSEE, Florida – Florida State’s bullpen allowed just one run over 8.1 innings Tuesday, but Jacksonville’s earned a 5-4 win after a first-inning grand slam at Dick Howser Stadium. A solo home run for the Dolphins in the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner.
Down 4-0, Andrew Armstrong came in relief and pitched a career high 4.1 innings, allowing just one run and striking out a career-high six.
Brennen Oxford and Doug Kirkland each pitched 2.0 innings; Oxford struck out five batters, while Kirkland struck out the side in the eighth and faced the minimum.
At the plate, Florida State out-hit the Dolphins, 10-7, with six doubles. Jaime Ferrer led the way with three hits – including a pair of doubles and an RBI single in the ninth inning to provide the final margin. He extended his hitting streak to 19 games, the longest for a Seminole in nearly 10 years.
DeAmez Ross had two hits, his second leading off the ninth inning. Freshmen Titan Kamaka, Ben Barrett and Cam Smith had doubles, as did Jordan Carrion, who now has nine on the season.
