No. 4 Softball Hosts No. 15 Florida in Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The No. 4 Florida State softball team (39-8, 16-2) will play host to in-state rival No. 15 Florida (32-14, 8-10) in front of what is expected to be a capacity crowd on Wednesday night at JoAnne Graf Field. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. and can be seen on ACC Network Extra or heard on 96.5 FM, Seminoles.com or the Varsity Sports Network.

The Seminoles have been on fire as of late and are winners of 18 out of their last 20 games. They are in control of first place in the ACC with a 16-2 record and a two-game lead over Clemson with just six conference games remaining. The Gators come to town after being swept on the road at No. 3 Tennessee. Florida State have won the past three meetings against the Gators including a 2-1 win and a 4-2 in the 2022 season.

The Seminoles are coming off another sweep against a ranked opponent as they took all three games at No. 22 Virginia Tech last weekend. They outscored the Hokies 28-11. The dynamic pitching duo of Kathryn Sandercock and Makenna Reid shined again against the VT as the two pitchers combined for 14.2 innings and allowed just two earned runs. Reid was named the ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week following her performance in Blacksburg and against Stetson.

The Seminole offense got hot last weekend against the Hokies and were led by Jahni Kerr and Kalei Harding. The two combined for 11 hits and nine RBI for the Seminoles.

Clutch Hitting

  • The Seminoles have had great success this season hitting and scoring with two outs.
  • 132 out of the Seminoles’ 295 runs (44.7%)have been with two outs this season.

Seeing Double

  • The Seminoles have been one of the top teams in the country in record extra base hits this season.
  • The Noles are currently second in the NCAA with 85 doubles.

Flying Around the Bases

  • The Seminoles have always been known for their aggressive base running and this year is no different.
  • The Noles are 104-116 on stolen base attempts this season.
  • The Noles’ 104 stolen bases ranks 10th in the country and first in the ACC.
  • The Noles stole 28 consecutive bases from Feb. 9 to Feb. 23.

Reid Picks Up First ACC Pitcher of the Week Award

  • Makenna Reid picked up her first ACC Pitcher of the Week award on Apr. 25 following her performances against Stetson and Virginia Tech.
  • Reid pitched 9.1 innings and did allow an earned run.
  • Reid the first Florida State true freshman to be named ACC Pitcher of the Week since Lacey Waldrop in 2012.
